Review: Amber Nelon Thompson – Just Sing

AmberNelonThompsonThe beauty of the southern gospel genre and its family-based nature is that listeners always know that there’s great new talent on the way as these families children grow and oftentimes join the family business. Amber Nelon Thompson is one of the latest to take this path after making a name for herself as part of the legendary Nelons, taking this step of faith solo. And what listeners will find on that debut, Just Sing, is one of the most exciting female voices to come along in southern gospel for some time.

I didn’t go to church on Sunday but, quite frankly, I wasn’t feeling too guilty about it. For, the night before, I’d spent a most powerful four hours at church worshipping amongst a crowd of thousands, led by one of Christian music’s most notable heavyweights, none other than Bill Gaither at the sold out Gaither Vocal Band Homecoming Tour in Tampa, FL. Featuring the Vocal Band, The Isaacs, The Nelons, Gene McDonald, Charlotte Ritchie, and a guest appearance from Gordon Mote, it was a night that those in attendance are bound to remember for a long, long time.

Concert Review: Jason Crabb with Sandi Patty, Gold City, and The Nelons

Jason CrabbIt was an unconventional Jason Crabb show but, to be honest, this reviewer was just excited to be seeing the multiple award winning artist. Crabb was part of a local southern gospel music convention, Bill Bailey’s Winter Gospel Convention, held in Bradenton, FL on February 4, and was set to headline the night alongside CCM legend Sandi Patty and southern gospel standards GoldCity and The Nelons.
