Review: Selah – Rose of Bethlehem Deluxe Edition

selahNormally I hate “deluxe editions” of albums as they oftentimes feel contrived to get you to shell out money for the same album you already have, save for a B-side or two. But, when such a product features some solid extras, it’s a little easier to justify. Thus, if you missed out on Selah’s excellent Christmas record, Rose of Bethlehem, you’re in luck as the group is now releasing it as a “Deluxe Edition” featuring five new tracks.

Review: Plumb – Exhale

PlumbThe first line of Plumb’s latest album, Exhale, finds the artist singing over a gentle, pop-flavored beat, “It’s okay/To not be okay/This is a safe place.” It’s with that declaration that the artist signifies a distinct shift between the past and the present, her past record having transparently dealt with the marital struggles she and her husband found themselves in and the spiritual dissonance that came with it. Those dark times and honest confessions contrast brightly with the earnest, yet surprisingly subtle and peaceful worship offered up here, showcasing a saint who’s gone through the fire and been brought out to the other side.
