Review: JJ Heller – I Dream of You

JJHellerIt’s unfortunate but there are going to be more than a fair share of people who will pass on JJ Heller’s latest outing, I Dream of You, simply because of its billing as a lullaby album. No, it’s not poor marketing because it is, in fact, just that, a twelve-song collection of heartfelt lullabies recorded and mostly penned by the insightful indie artist and her husband. But, deep down, it’s so much more than just a simple grouping of songs designed to lull your little ones to sleep. And that’s a fact that will be missed by those that dismiss these as simply “children’s songs.” For aren’t we all children, in one way or another?

Review: Passion – Take It All

PassionTakeItAllLet’s face it; movements come and go. Generally, there’s a lot of “rah-rah-rah!” and a few huge gatherings and strong testimonies but, unfortunately, all to many find themselves burning out and falling by the wayside, their impact there but not necessarily lasting beyond the moment.

Then there’s Passion. Birthed out of a vision to reach young adults and college students from lead communicator Louie Giglio and Jeff Lewis in 1997, the Passion movement has broken all of the stereotypes, continuing over fifteen years beyond its inception and growing bigger each year, even allowing for the formation of PassionCityChurch. No doubt meticulous planning, a commitment to the original vision and the core Scripture of Isaiah 26:8 have helped to keep the movement continuing headstrong but one can’t deny that the music has and always will be a key component.

That’s certainly true as the collective releases their latest offering, Take It All, recorded live at their annual gatherings held earlier this year in Atlanta and Houston.
