Review: Decyfer Down – Scarecrow

Decyfer Down - ScarecrowFor fans of Decyfer Down, the past five years have been a long wait. It was back in 2008 when the band released their last album, Crash, and also later announced that lead singer Caleb Oliver was departing the band due to personal issues. That departure made way for front man TJ Harris to step in and the band spent their time touring relentlessly and writing songs.

“The way we write songs is based on the things that have inspired our lives the most,” says drummer, Josh Oliver.

If the band’s latest effort, Scarecrow, is any indication, this is a band that’s been through a few fires and come out the better for it.

Much has followed in those twenty years as life has pressed in upon the musicians, impacting their music and their maturity. A few years ago, the group moved back into independent record-making, working their independent label on Grey Dot, and they’ve seen a handful of both hits and misses along the way as they continue to grow and develop their sound. Their latest album, Inland, finds them continuing this quest.
